Generally Available: SQL Server on Azure Local Disconnected (ALDO)

LaunchedAzure update

Now you can use ALDO to extend SQL Server support to environments that can’t maintain continuous connectivity to Azure. ALDO is designed for operations in highly regulated, secure, remote, or air-gapped environments, where internet connectivity is restricted or unavailable. SQL Server workloads continue to run entirely on Azure Local infrastructure while maintaining operational independence from cloud connectivity.

In addition to traditional database workloads, you can use ALDO to support local AI and intelligent application scenarios in disconnected environments. By keeping data, AI models, and SQL Server workloads within the same secure infrastructure boundary, you can build and run AI-powered solutions without requiring cloud connectivity. This is particularly valuable for defense, government, manufacturing, energy, and remote-edge deployments where data sovereignty, security, and operational continuity are critical requirements.
